Service Conditions


Note: These have to be shared with all the potential teachers before appointment

Joining: Upon joining, after completion of deposit formalities, they would be given an appointment letter with consolidated salary details within 10 days. Depending upon the salary emoluments and candidate’s choice, Central Government deductions like PF, ESI would apply from the first month. Professional Tax, levied by Government of West Bengal, would be deducted from the first month as per the rates applicable.

Attendance Bonus: If a teacher is present on all working days (zero absence or leave): Rs. 500 per month – if the month has equal to or more than 23 working days. Half bonus is considered for months with 21 or 22 days.

Absence Penalty: For 1 day’s additional absence (absence beyond the leaves applicable as stated in the leave rules), 2 days salary would be deducted. Absence is not present on days exceeding entitled leaves. Double Deduction Waiver would be available in the following conditions: a) Medical Emergency / Hospitalisation of a nuclear family member b) Wedding of self/ son / daughter – Managing Committee / 2 MC member team would decide on all such grants of waivers.

Working Days: The school is open on all days, Monday through Saturday, unless mentioned in the diary. One Saturday is additionally off for teachers unless there is pre-scheduled programme. Other Saturdays are reserved for teacher’s training and school’s development. In addition, teacher’s may be called during long vacations, in case of a genuine need. Suitable compensation in leave / cash would apply as per the leave rules.

Timings: Teachers/Teachers-in-charge:
Monday- Friday: 7:35 AM – 2: 45 PM (Normal) Summer-timings may be earlier and less
Saturday: – 7:35 AM – 1:30 PM (Normal) Summer-timings may be earlier and less
In addition to this, a teacher is expected to take special classes for 1-2 days during weekdays. On such days they depart at 4:30 PM.

Teachers must come on time to ensure that the school activities are done on time. There is a 5- minute grace available for the teachers. It should be very rarely used and cannot exceed 2. More than 2 would have ¼ salary deduction. 60 minutes late-coming invite ½ days deduction. Same norms apply (5 mins and 60 mins) at the time of leaving (of course, with permission). All these are deducted from entitled leaves. A teacher would not be considered for attendance bonus, if she is late on more than 2 days in a month

Leaves: All leave applications must be given in advance. In case of exigencies, they need to be given before joining the classes next day. Leaves can not exceed a block of six. More than six leaves (even if available), would attract double deduction.
Half Day Leave (with advance permission at least one day in advance)
1st Half: A teacher must come before 10.15 AM (Mon-Fri) / 9:35 AM (Sat).
2nd Half: A teacher must leave after 10.55 AM (Mon-Sat)

Dress Code: All teachers must look presentable at all times. Ladies must wear Sarees and light make-up. Gentleman must wear full shirts and trousers with matching ties. In winter they are not allowed to wear shawls.

Lunch and Breakfast: Subsidised, and optional, lunch and breakfast are provided to the teachers for Rs. 35 and Rs. 25 respectively. These are deducted from the salary each month.

Use of Vernacular Language: Use of vernacular language is strictly prohibited in the campus – whether children are present or absent. Teachers are expected to communicate among themselves or with children in ENGLISH only. Exception can only be made – when they communicate with parents/maids who do not understand English.

Educational Norms: Given separately, these have to be adhered to without exception. Any exception has to be brought to the notice of the authorities.

Exit: A temporary teacher / permanent teacher cannot leave the school without giving one / three months’ notice or equivalent / proportionate salary in lieu of notice period at the closing of the session. In the first year, candidates must complete the session or one year before they can leave the employment. To implement this, a security deposit of a month’s salary is taken in advance. At least 50% security deposit must be deposited in advance for a candidate to join. 12% simple interest per annum is payable at the end academic year. If a candidate leaves before the closing of the session, the security deposit is forfeited.

Terms for Probationary Staff

1. The tenure of probation is normally 12 months (can be extended to another 12 months based on candidate’s performance)
2. Pay scales would be as per Government of West Bengal directives
3. Government benefits such as PF, ESI, Pension & Gratuity available
4. Monthly Attendance Bonus – applicable
5. Double salary cutting provision in case of absence exceeding number of leaves – applicable
1. Notice Period – One month from either side or three month’s salary in lieu of notice period or in proportion thereof
6. Casual Leave – 12 CLs per year pro rata based on number of completed months of service (cash able)
7. Holiday Breaks – Breaks related to summer vacation, puja vacation and winter vacation are allowed subject to the following conditions:
a) Summer break’s entitlement is after a continuous service of 100 days (corresponding salary payment is done after one year)
b) Puja and other break’s entitlements is after a continuous service of 50 days (corresponding salary payment is done after six months)

Terms for Confirmed Staff

1) All the teachers and staff on successful tenure as probationary teacher or staff join as a teacher or staff on Government Scale on confirmation
2) These are long term appointments generally taking place in the beginning of the session
3) Pay scales would be as per Government of West Bengal directives
4) Government benefits such as PF, ESI, Pension & gratuity available
5) Monthly Attendance Bonus – applicable
6) Double salary cutting provision in case of absence exceeding number of casual leaves – applicable
7) Notice Period – three months from either side or three month’s salary in lieu of notice period or in proportion thereof
8) Casual Leave – 14 CLs per year pro rata based on number of completed months of service (cash able)
9) Maternity Leave: 12 weeks on full pay subject to minimum 12 months of continuous service as probationer; 180 days for others (to be approved my Managing Committee)
10) Paid Medical Leave: 07 days per session from 3rd year onwards for long term illness; Can be accumulated for over the total service period; 50% of the balance leave would be cashable at the time of leaving after minimum 10 years of service or superannuation/ retirement
11) Holiday Breaks – Breaks related to summer vacation, puja vacation, winter vacation and year end vacation are allowed subject to the following conditions:
a) Summer break’s entitlement is after a continuous service of 100 days (corresponding salary payment is done after one year)
b) Puja and other break’s entitlements is after a continuous service of 50 days (corresponding salary payment is done after six months)
